Net Zero Custom Home
New Build
This Net Zero custom home was designed by HMH Architecture + Interiors for two environmental attorneys. The homeowners needed a showcase for their expansive art collection and requested casual living spaces in addition to the home.
Energy modeling prior to construction dictated less windows than originally intended to optimize the amount of sunlight to keep the home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. With a 10kW solar PV system on the roof and electric heat pumps and hot water heater, the home is all electric and produces more electricity than it consumes.
A clean burning EPA rated wood stove provides biofuel heat for an extra cozy living space on the cold winter days. The home has a zero carbon footprint and produces 140% of its energy every year. The homeowners sell the excess back to Xcel Energy.
